Family Sharing in Hama Home
To give others access to the installed Hama smart home products, you can create and manage a family within the app. This is especially interesting if you want to restrict the permissions of individual people. There are three role profiles:
- Owner: automatically the person who created the family has all rights such as adding, removing devices, making settings, etc.
- Administrator: invitee, also has all rights.
- General member: can only use devices, but cannot delete them, make in-depth settings or manage rooms, etc.
All users need their own account and, of course, the Hama Home app. This means that anyone with their own device can independently control all smart home devices. Members of the "App Family" can also use created scenes and automations. The benefit of Family Sharing is that you have more control over who can use which features.
Step 1: Manage your smart home environment
To prepare for Family Sharing, first tap "Profile" in the bottom right corner of the Hama Home app and then tap "Family Management". The only mandatory information is a name of your choice: location and room selection are optional information and can also be edited later. Then tap Save.
Step 2: Define settings
You can now access the family from the home screen or "Profile" and manage the following items:
- Naming
- Rooms
- Location
- Family members
You can manually adjust permissions once a member joins the family. The default setting for new members is limited access. Once you've created the family, you'll have the "Owner" role and have all administrator privileges right away.
Step 3: Add members
Via "Invite new member" you have different ways to invite someone to the family or smart home environment, e.g. via WhatsApp or e-mail. Once the person has accepted the invitation, you can manually elevate their access rights, i.e. change the role from general to administrator. To add someone, follow these steps:
- Open the Hama Home app or home screen.
- In the top right, tap My Home or the name of the smart home environment if you've already named it manually.
- Then tap Family Management.
- Select your home or smart home environment.
- Tap Invite New Member (scroll down a bit if necessary), then tap Create Invite.
With this invitation, individual members can now join the family in the Hama Home app.
Alternative: Share your account
As an alternative to family management, you can also provide your family with your own access data, i.e. your registered email address with password. The prerequisite for this is that the Hama Home app is installed on the respective smartphone.
If you share your personal access, everyone will of course have the same permissions. Therefore, anyone who has your owner access rights can of course also remove devices, change basic settings or delete the family, change the password, etc. So only share your access data if you can be sure that everyone is familiar with access and does not accidentally make unwanted changes.
In principle, we recommend using the family management and always providing other users with their own access.
Occasionally, harmless session errors can occur when sharing the same account. A new login is always required when an active device logs out another logged-in smartphone. With your own account, there is no need to log in again.
