App recording: Error due to energy-saving mode

Problems with activity tracking, route recording, etc. when your mobile phone is in energy-saving mode? Find out why and how to adjust the settings directly on your smartphone.

At a glance: App authorisations for recording

  • Modern smartphones have energy-saving settings that can close apps in the background
  • If a smartwatch app is closed as a background process, errors occur when recording activities, training data, route history, etc.
  • Additional known problems under Android 14 have been fixed under Android 15, an update may help here
  • Solution: Adjust energy-saving options, set up exceptions if necessary
  • Our instructions explain how to do this - step by step and suitable for your mobile phone brand

Settings: Mobile phone can terminate app processes

If your training is not being recorded or the distance recording is no longer working, this may be due to the energy settings on your smartphone. From Android 6.0, for example, you can specify that apps are automatically closed when not in use.

This battery optimisation can increase the general runtime until you have to charge your phone again. However, these background settings may close apps that are actually needed. This can also affect the smartwatch app. As a result, the app can no longer track your training. However, you can adjust the settings for individual apps - and create an exception for the Hama Fit Move app, for example. This means that your mobile phone will continue to save energy with all other apps and you can record and save your activities with your smartwatch and app on your mobile phone.

  Note

The smartwatch app on your mobile phone must remain active so that it can record all activities. This is the only way that running tracking and route recording, for example, can work. It therefore requires authorisation to continue working as a process in the background.

  • What happens if I record activities but the Hama Smartwatch app is closed?

If the app is closed as a background process, this can cause various problems:

    • Activity recording with the Hama Smartwatch is automatically cancelled.
    • Tracking is incomplete or the recording does not show the entire activity.
    • There is no recording at all for distance or training or it is not saved.
    • Notifications may not arrive on the smartwatch, e.g. from WhatsApp or calls.

Tips for reliable smartwatch recordings

We have two recommendations for you that you can implement directly on your smartphone so that your app can record your activities and, for example, optimise the route recording when tracking:

1. Adjust energy settings

Adjust the energy settings so that the app can also work in the background and does not close unexpectedly. We explain where you can find these settings below.

2. Restart your smartphone regularly

Restart your smartphone at least once a week. This deletes unnecessary data that has accumulated in the apps in the background and can disrupt or slow down background processes.

  Note

If even the recommended settings and restarting the mobile phone do not help, please check which operating system your smartphone is using. If it is Android 14, it is probably due to now known problems with the operating system itself, which result in apps active in the background being randomly terminated.

These problems have been fixed with Android 15. If your mobile phone is running Android 14, please check whether an update to Android 15 is available for your device and install it if necessary.

The fact that power-saving mode restricts background updates and app authorisations affects both Android devices and Apple iPhones. The power-saving mode on the iPhone can restrict the basic functions of all apps.

Exceptions for background authorisations can be set up for Android devices. Please check the power settings on your smartphone or for your app. We will now explain how to do this.

General settings for saving energy

Please check these battery optimisation settings on your smartphone and make sure that the Hama Fit Move app is excluded from energy saving mode etc.. This is because specific or default settings may terminate the Hama Fit Move app for smartwatches and thus affect activity recording, route history and other app tracking. To be on the safe side, you can also switch off battery optimisation completely:

Android 14

Here you will find the central energy settings for the app on your smartphone with Android 14 operating system:

Settings > Apps > View all apps > Hama Fit Move > App battery usage > Unrestricted.

Android 15

Here you can access the app power options under Android 15:

Settings > Apps > All apps > Hama Fit Move > App battery usage > Allow background usage > Unrestricted.

Adjust smartphone energy saving settings

Depending on the smartphone manufacturer, the relevant energy-saving options are hidden in different directories. Here we explain the quickest way to find them for some popular brands, depending on the mobile phone brand (click for instructions).

Adjust default energy settings - why?

Many default settings authorise the smartphone to exit the app unexpectedly, which can lead to the problems described above. It is therefore often necessary to deactivate the default setting or add an exception for your smartwatch app so that the route, tracking etc. can function smoothly and be saved.

Customise settings - by mobile phone brand

  • Google Pixel

Energy saving settings: Settings > Apps > All apps > select the ‘Hama Fit Move’ app in the list below > activate ‘Allow background’ > Unrestricted

  • Huawei

Autostart and run app in the background: Settings > Apps & Services > Start Manager > Switch on the slider next to ‘Hama Fit Move’ > Also activate the slider for “Autostart”, ‘Secondary start’ and ‘Run app in background’

Energy saving settings: Settings > Battery > Deactivate ‘Energy saving mode’ and ‘Ultra energy saving mode’ or ‘Power saving mode’

Settings: Search for ‘battery optimisation’ (enter without inverted commas; the search may take a moment), select as soon as displayed > select ‘Hama Fit Move’ > select ‘Do not allow’
