Hama Home: Tips and Notes on the New App
Our app received a major update in November 2025 to improve the user experience and introduce new features. Unfortunately, the current version still has some limitations and issues that we want to be transparent about. Below you’ll find an overview of the known issues, along with tips on how to handle them.

Login Not Working
After updating the app, you'll need to log in again using your existing login credentials. If you're unable to log in because you've forgotten your password, you can reset it yourself using the “Forgot Password” option. To do this, you must use the email address that is actually linked to your account.
Solution: Find the Correct Email Address
Enter your email address and tap “Forgot Password.” You should receive the email shortly—to be on the safe side, please also check your spam folder. If there are multiple possible addresses, you can figure it out in two ways:
- Check your email inbox to see which address you used to receive the Hama (Smart) Home registration email.
- Try resetting your password using different email addresses to see which one works.
Please use at least 10 characters when creating a new password. Be sure to include special characters such as ! or &, numbers, and a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters to increase security. Please note that you must confirm the new password by entering it a second time exactly as you entered it the first time.
Make sure Gmail addresses are spelled exactly the same: If you entered the email provider’s name in full during registration, please spell it exactly the same way when logging in again (xy@gmail.com vs. xy@googlemail.com). Otherwise, a new account may be created, and you won’t be able to access your devices—even though you’re logged in - because you’ll be in the new account.
Repeatedly Having to Log In
If multiple people use the same login credentials, certain devices and software versions may cause an active app session on one device to terminate a session on another. This requires you to log in again.
Using Family Management
Ideally, each person should have their own account (email address required). To grant access to the same smart home, you can invite additional people using an access code,
Instructions: Add Family Member
Here’s how to create an invitation to your smart home in the Hama Home app:
3. Open the app and tap “My Home” in the top-right corner or the name of your smart home environment.
4. Tap “Family Management.”
5. Select the smart home environment.
6. Tap “Invite a New Member.”
This allows you to send all the necessary information, including the access code, via your preferred method—for example, by copying and pasting or directly through a messaging app.
Devices Are Not Displayed
Even if you’ve successfully logged in, a rare error might prevent you from seeing your smart devices in the app.
Solution: Contact us!

The issue is as follows:
Error Message: “Something went wrong”
If you see the error message “Oops, something went wrong,” it’s often because multiple devices with different app versions are accessing the same smart home environment.
Solution: Update the app on all devices
Please check whether the new Hama Home app is installed on all devices with access to your smart home environment. If the older app version (“Hama Smart Home”) is still installed on one or more devices, please update it via the App Store or Play Store. This applies to both types of shared accounts, whether identical login credentials are used or Family Sharing has been enabled.
Time Control No Longer Available
With the new version of the app, direct time control and schedules for devices are currently unavailable. As an alternative, we recommend using automations so you can continue to take advantage of time-controlled processes. For outlets and lights, you also have the option to use the user interface from the previous app version.
Solution: Automation
With automations, you can, for example, set outlets or lights to turn on or off at specific times. This gives you just as much flexibility as the timer feature did before—and even more options when you combine it with conditions, such as: a set time + a specific device status → an action.
Instructions: Setting Up an Automation
Here's how to create an automation in the Hama Home app in no time and use it to replace the timer:
- Open the app, tap “Automation” and then tap the plus icon (+) in the upper-right corner to add a new one.
- IF rule: Set the trigger, such as a specific time. You can also expand the rule and add another trigger (“if both are true”).
- THEN rule: Set the desired action, such as turning on a power outlet, etc. You can also specify multiple devices and desired actions here.
- Save.
You can use automations to add additional conditions, such as making sure the light turns on only when you're at home.
Resetting Outlets and Lights
You can restore your outlets and lights to the user interface from the previous app version. This allows you to use the timer function for these devices even without automation. Here’s how to switch the interface directly on the device:
- Open the home screen with the device overview
- Select device
- Tap the gear icon (Settings) in the top-right corner
- Select “Open Old Control Panel” at the bottom
- Now make your selections as desired; save or bookmark them if necessary
- Confirm by tapping the button
To switch back to the new design later:
- Open the home screen
- Tap “Profile” in the bottom-right corner
- Open Settings
- Select “Switch to the new control panel experience”
Grouping devices is not possible with the old control panel either. If you want to create a schedule involving multiple devices at the same time, we recommend using Automation (see the next tip).
Devices Cannot Be Grouped
With the current version of the app, it is not possible at this time to group devices together. We take your feedback seriously and are already working hard to reintroduce this feature as soon as possible. Until then, you can use automations.
Solution: Automation
With an automation, you combine a trigger with a specific action, allowing you to control multiple devices at once. This is very easy to do using the “If-Then” condition—that is, if x, then y—and you can set a corresponding action for all desired devices, whether they’re lights or outlets.
Instructions: Setting up automation
Here’s how to quickly create an automation in the Hama Home app and group all the devices you need:
- Open the app, tap “Automation” and then tap the plus icon (+) in the upper-right corner to add a new one.
- IF rule: Set the trigger, such as a specific time. You can also expand the rule and add another trigger (“if both are true”).
- “IF-THEN” Rule: Specify the desired action, such as which light should turn on and in what color. You can also specify multiple devices and desired actions here.
- Save.
This way, for example, all your lights will automatically do what you tell them to - without any manual control. You can also use automations to add additional conditions, such as having the lights turn on only when you're at home.
Apple: Widgets Missing
The widgets are currently unavailable for Apple iOS in the latest version of the app. We have taken your feedback into account and are already working hard to reintegrate the feature.
Siri Shortcuts aren't working
After updating to the new app version, Siri Shortcuts may no longer work. This is because the information structure has been reorganized, and the commands can no longer be routed in the same way.
Solution: Recreate Shortcuts
The Siri Shortcuts feature is still available. To ensure they work smoothly, we recommend that you delete your existing shortcuts and recreate them.
Instructions: Setting Up Shortcuts
Here’s what to do after you’ve deleted your old shortcuts:
- Open the Hama Home app and tap the star icon in the lower-left corner.
- Switch to “Scenes” at the top.
- Tap the plus sign (+) in the upper-right corner.
- “THEN” function: Select the desired device and the corresponding function.
- Give the shortcut a unique name. This is the command you’ll give to Siri.
- Save.
- Tap the Siri button to finish the shortcut. The shortcut will then be available in the Shortcuts app as usual.
You can also add multiple actions in sequence to create a series of steps. You can also add conditions so that an action is triggered only under certain circumstances.
We are currently in the process of updating the app guide and will be adding the tips and solutions there as well. We will make the guide for the Hama Home app available as soon as possible.
